In what ways does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms and
conventions of a real media products?
My media product uses forms and convention of real media products by the way that
the magazine has a house style theme of colours through out the pages. The front
cover’s main colour is orange, black and white; these colours are continued through
the contents and the feature page. Another theme that is continued through the pages
is the font; the main font that is used through out the magazine is “impact”. This is a
convention of real media products, as most magazines use the font “impact” to make
there magazines stand out on the shelves at the shops. This is the main reason why I
used this font for my media product because I want the text to stand out to the target
audience. Another way my product uses convention is the language that is used in the
text. The language used relates to the target audience which is 16-21 years olds, who
are interested in the genre of music that I am conveying through my magazine. Many
real media products use language that there target audience will be able to relate to
and understand it. Also through out my magazine I have put my text on the front
cover at a very large size. This is a convention of a real media product too. The reason
why I did the text at a large size is to attract and encourage people to buy the
magazine. One way I think my magazine challenges the conventions is that my title is
on the side instead of it being in the centre, like other real media products. However, I
think by doing this, it makes the magazine stand out and look distinctive to the other
magazines on the stands .Also it is eye catching and gives the readers something to
identify. When they see magazine they will think “MV” because it is the only
magazine with its tile on the side of the page.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my media product is people who are in the age between 16-21 years
old, who have passion and enjoy listening to the genres of music which is R&B. Also
my audience for my product would be for both genders because the colour scheme
can relate to both boys and girls. However, many people would say that by having the
model as a girl that this would only appeal to girls but I have found other ways that
will make the magazine stand out to boys. By featuring artists that boys would like to
read about on the front cover as well E.G Drake
How did you attract /address your audience?
How I attracted my target audience is by using bright colours that will stand out and
appeal to them for all the right reasons. Also I used the colours orange, black and
white to convey the genre of R&B to the audience so that it will attract them to the
magazine. Another thing I did to attract the audience is by having a close up picture of
my artist on cover. By doing this it will draw in the target audience and encourage
them to buy and continue reading the magazine in the future. Also the image gives off
that my artist has secret and the only way you’re going to find out is by buying the
magazine, this will also stand out to the audience. Another way that my magazine will
attract the audience is by different artist that I have put on the front cover, this will
also encourage people to buy magazine so that they see what’s going on with there
2. favourite artist E.G Chris Brown are you still down ? Also the language that I have
used will attract my audience because they will be able to understand it and enjoy
reading the articles.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
I think that my magazine represents many social groups. One of the main social
groups that my Magazine can relate to is the group that enjoys and has a huge interest
in the genre that my media product is conveying which is R&B. The way my
magazine will be able to relate to this particular social group is that most of the
information on the magazine is all about R&B, which will appeal to them. Another
social group that I think that my magazine will appeal to is the group of young people.
My media product will appeal to them because the language and the colours will
attract them and will also be visual pleasing to the eye.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The media intuitions that will distribute my media product will be places like HMV
and ZAVI because these are places where sell music for many genres including the
genre I am doing for magazine, also by doing this when people come to buy there
CDS in theses music shops they will also see “MV” and get attracted to the magazine
because it is appealing to there type of genre. Another media intuition that will sell
my magazine is places like WHSmith because people go in to these shops because
they specialise in all types of magazines .Where my magazine will fit is in the music
section.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this
product?
What I have learnt about technologies is that “INDESIGN” is a very hard program to
use. Also you have to have patience and time to create a great product on this
program. I have also learnt that by using indesign you have endless options to make
the product better and better. You also have to know when to stop because your
improvements could go on forever. Also using “Photoshop” you learn how to
manipulate the images to the way you want them. All the skills that I have learned
through making this magazine will be life time skills for me to use as future reference.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
I think that I have learned how to work the program “indesign” a lot better since my
first try when making the preliminary task. The image that I took for the preliminary
task was not of a high standard as my full product. By using a camera that would be
able to take the photos good, it would make the magazine look professional and worth
the price that it is selling for in the shops. In the preliminary task when cutting out the
image from the background in “Photoshop” I also didn’t do that as neatly as I did in
my full product. By cutting out your images neatly it makes the magazine look
attractive to the target audience. I also think that I have learned how to make my
magazine eye catching to my target audience. In the preliminary task the magazine
was a bit dull and not as attractive as my full product because I decided to use colours
3. that stood out and gave the magazine an identity. So when people see it, they know
that magazine is “MV”. The font on the preliminary task was to confusing because
there was so many, so this time I decided to use as little fonts as I could to make it
easy to read, understandable and to also follow my “house style” that I had created for
my full product. Also this time with my full product I decide to make the text a lot
bigger so that it stands out to the audience whereas on the preliminary task you could
hardly read the articles. However, I did get some ideas from the preliminary task and
that is the border at the bottom, which shows what’s in the magazine. I change it
slightly by making the text bigger and putting the main colour as the border. I think
by doing it this way it makes it look more visual pleasing to the eye because the
colours are emphasis the text so that they will enjoy reading it. Overall, I believe that I
have come a long way since the preliminary task because my full product is of a
higher standard and looks more attractive. This was my aim from the start that my
target audience is attracted to my full product.
